Accredited Mental Health Social Workers work from a whole-of-person perspective, recognising the broader support requirements for an individual experiencing mental illness and the impact on friends, family, work and education.
Accredited Mental Health Social Workers are experienced in building relationships and working collaboratively with other health professionals to maintain multidisciplinary care while basing their decisions on a holistic assessment of the needs, strengths, goals and preference of their clients.
Accredited Mental Health Social Workers work with people with mild to complex mental health issues. They support patients through counselling and psychotherapy, using a range of evidence-based strategies, including focused psychological strategies, depending on the needs of the patient. Accredited mental health social workers are equipped to help individuals identify and address social and other environmental issues to improve their quality of life. This may involve individual, family and/or group counselling, in person or via telehealth.
